Cessna uses the marketing name Cessna Citation for its line of business jets. The aircraft are a family of turbofan-powered aircraft that have been produced over the years. There are six distinct families. Within each aircraft design improvements, market pressures, and re-branding efforts have resulted in a number of variants. In 1969, the FanJet 500 was the prototype for the original Citation family.
The Citation I was originally called the Citation 500. The Cessna Citation 500 was one of the first light corporate jets to be powered by turbofan engines. Production of the aircraft ceased in 1985. The Citation I/SP was a single-pilot operations model. A larger stretched development of the 500 was the Citation II. The military variant was designated the T-47. The Citation 500 SP LW was a single pilot operations airplane. The Citation SII incorporated a number of improvements, especially an improved wing. The Citation Bravo featured new PW530A engines, landing gear, and Primus 1000 avionics. The last Bravo was produced in late 2006. The Citation V aircraft was a variant of the Citation II/SP. Variant models of the Citation V include the Citation Ultra, UC-35A, UC-35C, Citation Encore, UC-35B, UC-35D, and Citation Encore+.
