Jet McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Information

The McDonnell Douglas MD-80 series is a line of medium-range, single-aisle, and twin engine commercial jet airliners. Sometimes designated as DC-9-80 series, the MD-80 is a variation of the DC-9 models. The airliners can seat 130 to 172 passengers. All series models have the same length fuselage except the shorter MD-87.

The MD-81 is the initial model of the 80 series. It is powered by {Pratt & Whitney} JT8D-209 engines. The MD-82 was built to be the hot and high model. It is powered by Pratt & Whitney JT8D-217 engines. The MD-83 is the longer-range model with increased fuel capacity, longer range, more powerful engines, and higher weights. It is powered by Pratt & Whitney JT8D-219 engines. The MD-87 is the short model in the series. It is offered with either Pratt & Whitney JT8D-21C engines or JT8D-219 engines. The MD-88 is the final variant of the 80 series. The main difference in the MD-88 is the EFIS cockpit used instead of the conventional analogue flight deck.
