Aero Commander Agricultural Aircraft Information

In 1944, Aero Commander began manufacturing light, single-engine aircraft in Culver City, California. The first prototype, the Aero Commander, took to the air in 1948 and was certified in June 1950 by the Civil Aeronautics Administration.

In September of the same year the Aero Commander was certified, Aero Commander became Aero Design and Engineering Company and moved to Oklahoma. What was then used as a manufacturing facility and hangar is now Wiley Post Airport near Oklahoma City.

In 1958, Rockwell-Standard purchased Aero Design and began modifications to the current Aero aircraft to create the Twin Commander.

Gulfstream Aerospace acquired Rockwell International in 1981. In 1986, production of the Aero aircraft ceased to give way to a new focus on business jet marketing.
