A single-engine, two seat, light aircraft with fixed conventional landing gear, the Aeronca Chief entered into production in 1945. The Chief has the capacity for one crew member and one pilot. The empty weight is 725 lb (328.9 kg) and maximum takeoff weight is 1250 lb (567 kg). The cruise speed is 95 mph (152.9 km/h), stall speed is 40 mph (64.4 km/h), and maximum speed is 105 mph (169 km/h). The rate of climb is 500 ft/min (2.54 m/s). The Chief was produced in from 1946 to 1950 and designed for flight training and personal use. The Chief features side-by-side seating. The fuselage and tail surfaces are constructed of welding metal tubing. The outer shape of the fuselage is created by a combination of wooden forms and longerons, covered with fabric. The cross-section of the metal fuselage truss is triangular. The Aeronca 11 Chief features strut-braced wings, which are fabric covered, utilizing aluminum rib and wood spars. The aircraft's landing gear is conventional with steel tube main gear, which uses an oleo strut for shock absorption and a steerable tailwheel. The 11AC was powered by a Continental A-65-8 engine of 65 hp with a McDowell mechanical starter.
