The Cirrus SR22 was built by Cirrus Aircraft starting in 2001.
Variant models of the Cirrus SR22 include the SR22, SR22 G2, SR22, G3, SR21 tdi, SR22T, and SR22TN. The SR22 is a modified more powerful version of the Cirrus SR20. The SR22 has a larger wing, higher fuel capacity, and a 310 hp engine. The SR22 is also known for being equipped with a Cirrus Aircraft Parachute System (CAPS). The CAPS is an emergency parachute system capable of lowering the entire aircraft to the ground in an emergency.
The SR22 is powered by a nose-mounted Continental IO-550-N piston engine of 310 hp. The cabin can be accessed through a door on each side. The aircraft is a low wing cantilever monoplane with tricycle landing gear, featuring a castering nose wheel and steering with differential braking on the main wheels.
The turbo option version of the Cirrus SR22 features a Tornado Alley turbonormalizing upgrade kit with twin turbonormalizers and twin intercoolers. This conversion allows pilots to fly higher, faster, and farther. Included in the turbo conversion is built-in oxygen and a Hartzell 3-blade light weight composite propeller. Air conditioning is also available with the SR 22 Turbo. However, the weight of these conversions will reduce the aircraft's useful load.
The Avidyne Entegra primary flight display became standard equipment of SR22s built after 2003. Cirrus Design and Garmin revealed a new king of cockpit known as the Garmin Perspective on May 22, 2008. The Avidyne cockpit remains standard equipment, but the Perspective cockpit is an available option on the SR22-GTS and SR22-GTS Turbo models. The Cirrus SR22 is popular with air charter and small air taxi carriers, private individuals, and companies.
The Cirrus SR22 Turbo is powered by a Continental IO-550-N engine. The cruise speed at 75% power is 211 knots and the stall speed is 61 knots. The empty weight is 2418 lb and the gross weight is 3400 lb.
