Single Engine Piston Piper Tri-Pacer Aircraft Information
The single engine piston PA-22 Tri-Pacer is a four-seat, strut braced, high-wing light aircraft built by Piper Aircraft in the post-World War II period. The capacity of the Tri-Pacer is one crew member and three passengers. Cruise speed is 113 knots (135 mph, 216 km/h), stall speed is 42 knots (48 mph, 78 km/h), and maximum speed is 123 knots (142 mph, 227 km/h). Empty weight is 1100 lb (503 kg) and loaded weight is 2000 lb (907 kg).
In 1953, the Piper Pacer was redesigned and offered as the PA-22 Tri-Pacer with a nosewheel instead of the tailwheel landing gear. The Tri-Pacer offered higher powered engine options in the form of 150 hp and 160 hp. The tricycle undercarriage became popular and the Tri-Pacer outsold the Pacer by a ratio of six to one in 1953. From 1950 to 1964, 9490 Tri-Pacers were built.
