Piper Archer Series Aircraft Information
The Piper Archer is a member of the Piper Cherokee family of light aircraft designed for air taxi, flight training, and personal use and is built by Piper Aircraft. The Archer is all-metal, unpressurized, single-engine, piston-powered airplanes with low-mounted wings and tricycle landing gear. The aircraft has a single door on the co-pilot side, which is entered by stepping on the wing. Cruise speed is 108 knots (124 mph, 200 km/h), stall speed is 47 knots (54 mph, 87 km/h), and maximum speed is 123 knots (142 mph, 230 km/h). The aircraft has been popular with private owners and flying clubs.
The models of the Piper Archer are the PA-28-180 Piper Archer Model, PA-28-181 Piper Archer II, PA-28-181 Piper Archer III, and the Piper Archer LX. The Archer is a fixed landing gear landplane. The PA-28-Archer, introduced in 1972, is powered by a Lycoming O-360-A4A or O-360-A4M of 180 horsepower and has a gross weight of 2450 lb (1111 kg). The first Archer included a five inch fuselage extension, increased wing span, and larger horizontal tail than the previous PA-28-180 Cherokee. The PA-28-181 Archer II was certified in 1976 and is powered by a Lycoming O-360-A4M or O-360-A4A engine of 180 hp. The Archer II has a gross weight of 2550 lb (1157 kg). The PA-28-181 Archer III was certified in 1994. The Archer III is powered by a Lycoming O-360-A4M engine of 180 hp and has a gross weight of 2550 lb (1157 kg).
