Aviat Husky Series Aircraft Information
The Aviat Husky series features high wing, two seat, light utility aircraft. The aircraft has tandem seating, a braced high wing, and dual controls. The frame is steel tubes with Dacron covering on all but the rear fuselage. The high wing structure provides clear all around visibility making it possible to use patrol or observation roles. The engine is a Lycoming O-360 180 hp four piston with a constant speed propeller. Optional modifications can be made with skis, floats, and banner or glider tow hooks. Uses for this aircraft include fisheries patrol, pipeline inspection, glider towing, observation duties, border patrol and the Kenya Wildlife Service keeps watch on elephant herds to prevent illegal ivory poaching.
Variations in the series include six versions of the aircraft. The original model is the Aviat Husky A-1 or the Aviat Husky. It has a maximum gross weight of 1,800 lbs (816 kg) and is powered by either a Lycoming 0-360-A1P or a Lycoming O-360-C1G engine. The Aviat Husky A-1A allows for an extra 90 lbs in gross weight and uses a Lycoming O-360-A1P engine. The Aviat Husky A-1B allows for further modifications by allowing the Lycoming 0-360-A1P engine to be replaced with a Lycoming IO-360-A1D6 engine. The propeller is an MT MTV-15-B/205-58. The Aviat Husky A-1B-160 Pup comes with or without wing flaps and is powered by a Lycoming O-360-D2A which is a smaller engine, giving it its Pup distinction. The Aviat Husky A-1C-180 and Aviat Husky A-1C-200 are the final two models in the series. The 180 has a higher useful load weight and is powered by a Lycoming O-360-A1P while the 200 is powered by a Lycoming IO-360-A1D6.
