    Beechcraft Baron Series

The Beechcraft Baron Has Been In Production Since 1961

Beechcraft is a legendary airplane manufacturer. The company can trace its roots back to 1932, when Walter and Ann Beech decided to form their own aircraft company in Wichita, Kansas. Dissatisfied with working for someone else, Walter and Ann began production on the first true Beechcraft model - the model 17 Staggerwing. Since then, several models have been certified under the Beechcraft name. The Baron is one of the most popular Beechcraft models, and offers a more powerful alternative to some of Beechcraft's smaller airplanes.

The Beechcraft Baron Offers Twin Engine Power and Reliability

Introduced in 1961, the Baron is typically seen outfitted with twin Lycoming engines - each producing 260 horsepower. Early models, known as the 55, were four or five seat airplanes and offered minimal options. The A55, certified just a year later in 1962, offered a more functional and attractive instrument panel, better ergonomics, and a new paint scheme. The B55 enjoyed an 18-year production run and delivered additional refinements and avionics upgrades. Four to six seat units were available, with a 120-pound increase in gross weight rating.

The C55, which was built for just two years, was the first model to offer an upgraded engine choice. Two Continental IO-520C motors were available, which increased power output by nearly 50 horsepower over the standard Lycoming motors. Later models, like the 56TC, offered substantially more power than previous Barons. In fact, the 56TC could be had with two turbocharged, Lycoming engines that generated 380 horsepower each. This was a major step up in power for the Baron line, and it represented the fastest Beechcraft airplane in production (when it was introduced in 1967). These units rivaled early King Air models in terms of cruising speed and top end performance.

The Baron 58 is the larger and more powerful version of the previous 56TC. This airplane offers standard, twin 300 horsepower engines and a larger, more comfortable cabin. Baron 58 models offered a longer fuselage for more passenger and cargo room, plus a pressurized cabin to afford higher altitude cruising.
