Beechcraft King Air 90 Series Aircraft Information
Produced by Beech Aircraft Corporation, the Beechcraft King Air family is part of a line of twin-turboprop aircraft. The aircraft group consists of the Model 90, Model 100, Model 200, and Model 300. The 90 series has the capacity for 1-2 crew members and 7 passengers. The empty weight is 6,950 lb (3,150 kg) and the maximum takeoff weight is 10,100 lb (4,580 kg). The cruise speed is 226 knots (260 mph, 416 km/h), the stall speed is 78 knots (90 mph, 145 km/h), and the maximum speed is 270 knots (311 mph, 500 km/h). The rate of climb is 2,003 ft/min (10.2 m/s).
In 1961, the Model 90 King Air was developed as the Model 120. A modified Queen Air was test flown as a Model 87 with a {Pratt & Whitney} Canada PT6A-6 engines in 1963. Beech announced the "King Air" on July 14, 1963 and began taking orders a month later. The first prototype was designated as Model King Air 90 and fitted with a PT6A-6 engine.
Production switched to the Model King Air A90 with PT6A-20 engines in 1966. In 1968, production switched to the Model King Air B90. Military versions built from 1966-1968 included the 65-A90-1, 65-A90-2, 65-A90-3, and 65-A90-4. These models were all unpressurized aircraft based on the Model 87. The military versions built for the US Army were designated as the U-21s of various sub-models.
The Model King Air C90 was introduced in 1971. The C90 had wingspan increased over earlier models by 4 ft 11 in to 50 ft 3 in, maximum takeoff weight increased by 350 lb to 9650 lb, and PT6A-20A engines. Introduced the following year was the Model King Air E90 with PT6A-28 engines. The Model King Air F90 featured the T-tail of the Model 200 King Air and PT6A-135 engines of 750 shp driving four-bladed propellers. The Model G90 was not put into production, but was the F90 prototype re-engined with Garrett AiResearch TPE-331 engines.
After 507 C90s and 347 E90s has been built, the Model King Air C90-1 entered into production in 1982. The C90-1 featured PT4A-21 engines and improvements to the pressurization system. 54 Model C90-1s were built. The next year the F90-1 was released with redesigned engine cowlings, upgraded PT6A-135A engines, hydraulic landing gear, and triple-fed electrical bus. The Model C90A featured the redesigned engine cowlings of the F90-1.
In an effort to reduce cabin noise the Model King Air C90B featured airframe improvements, four-bladed propellers, and propeller synchrophasing. The C90B had PT6A-21 engines. The C90SE was a cheaper version introduced in 1994. The aircraft featured three-bladed propellers, standardized interior and mechanical instruments instead of the Electric Flight Instrument System of the C90B.
Beechcraft introduced the King Air C90GT in July 2005. The aircraft was fitted with 750 shp PT6A-135A engines. Engine performance was increased due to lower operating temperatures. This change improved both cruise speed and climb rate. An updated version, the Model King Air C90GTI, was introduced in May 2007. The C90GTi featured the Rockwell Collins Proline 21 avionics package.
