Lycoming O-540 Series Information
A family of six-cylinder, horizontally opposed, fixed wing aircraft and helicopter engines; the Lycoming O-540 has a displacement of 541.5 cubic inches. The O-540 is manufactured by Lycoming Engines and is a six-cylinder version of the four-cylinder Lycoming O-360. The O-540 has an output power of 300 hp at 2700 rpm at sea level. The compression ratio is 8.7:1.
The 540 prefixes include O-540 (carbureted), IO-540 (fuel injected), AEIO-540 (aerobatic, fuel injected), TIO-540 (turbocharged, fuel injected), TEO-540 (turbocharged, electronic sensors), LTIO-540 (left-hand rotation, turbocharged, fuel-injected), IGO-540 (gearbox), IGSO-540 (supercharger), VO-540 (vertically mounted for helicopter use), IVO-540 (fuel injected, vertically mounted for helicopter use), TVO-540 (turbocharged with a carburetor, vertically mounted for helicopter use), TIVO-540 (fuel injected, turbocharged, vertically mounted for helicopter use), and HIO-540 (helicopter engine horizontally mounted, fuel injected).
