Founded in 1927 as Taylor Brothers Aircraft Manufacturing Company, Piper Aircraft, Inc. manufactures general aviation aircraft and was settled finally in Vero Beach, Florida. The company produced over 144,000 aircraft during its time in business. As the recession hit, Piper went through gradual layoff and many attempts to develop new aircraft to keep current employees to no avail. The company went defunct in 2009.
