The aircraft had been in Colorado for about the last ten years. Because the climate is dry, corrosion is not a problem here. Also, since the engine replacement, the aircraft has been flown from KAPA with a field elevation of 5,885 feet. This means that the wear on the engine is much less than if it were flown at sea level. The engine 'should' be good to go for at least 500 hours beyond TBO or 1000 hours total. The TBO is only recommended by Diamond and not a requirement for the aircraft to be airworthy. All the flying schools in the area fly way beyond the TBO on most of their aircraft.
