Detailed Description

** SOLD-SOLD-SOLD** 1999 Glastar by Glasair Aviation for sale - Incredible condition with just over 1,000 hours on the airframe, and less than 450 hours on the major overhauled Lycoming O-320 engine by Columbia (2018). Over 1,500 hours of flying time left before TBO.

Upgraded panel in 2008 with a Garmin stack, including 530 GPS/Com, Garmin 250XL backup GPS/Com, Garmin transponder and audio panel. TruTrak 2-axis auto pilot coupled with the gps, Dynon D100 MFD, and uAvionix ADSB in/out. IFR capable and has held that certification in the past. With an IFR cert, this plane will qualify as a Technically Advanced Aircraft (TAA)!

Leather seats and night instrument lighting. New tires, brakes, alternator, main and backup batteries. LED light upgrades.

Plane needs nothing and is ready to fly! Equipped with four gas tanks and 50 gallons total fuel (two main tanks at 15 gallons each, two wing tip auxiliary tanks at 10 gallons each), making this an excellent cross country plane that has flown from Lake Tahoe to Florida and Florida to Ohio in the past six months on 7-8 gph!

Glastars are not only fun, but proven to be one of the safest GA airplanes on the market. Variety of reasons, including extremely low stall speed, flight characteristics of a Cessna 172, etc. However, the most notable is its cabin cage design. Just like NASCAR, you're surrounded by metal. 20+ years of data supporting the fact that Glastars - categorized as experimental - exceed production aircrafts in safety!

Current owner is upgrading to a Cessna 182 for family cross countries. This is the ideal plane for pilot looking to build hours or couple looking for a reliable and inexpensive cross country flyer.

Airframe

Excellent condition. Paint is in great condition with many more years left. Complete log book on airframe with no history of accidents or any damage.

Engines / Mods / Prop

Engine is a 1968 Lycoming O-320-E2D (same exact engine as a Cessna 172) with complete log books from 0 hours! 1,700TT.

Major overhauls were completed three times in it's life. The first two were due to lack of use, the third was due to a tiny amount of rust on camshaft. Columbia overhauled the engine in 2018 and it runs incredible with only 450 hours into its 2,000 TBO. Recent cross country from Florida to Ohio and back burned no oil! Incredible engine!

The prop is new as of 2023. Previous prop was coming to end of life, so a new ground adjustable Sensenich propeller was installed.

Interior / Exterior

Upgraded panel and interior in 2008. Leather seats in excellent condition. 250 lbs of storage capability with separate access door.
