Detailed Description

The Mosquito helicopter was the brainchild of John Uptigrove. And the first one was sold in 2004. This product has been improved over the years The model that I have for sale is the XEL. Although it is light and small the mosquito is a real helicopter in every sense, controls, drive rotor systems and capabilities all similar to the bigger helicopters available. With that in mind airworthiness of the helicopter pilot competency and flight safety rest solely with the owner operator. This is no toy.
The mosquito airframe is a unibody construction made entirely of high quality fiberglass and vinyl ester matrix. Body and structure of the same minimize weight and maximize structural efficiency.

This aircraft qualifies as an ultralight aircraft in the United States under part 103 of the FAA regulation. It is powered by the MZ 202 engine and comes equipped with floats. The aircraft weighs in at 312 pounds. The engine is a two cycle MZ 202, Rated at 64 HP,it is carbureted and air cooled. Empty weight of the entire helicopters is 312 pounds. Weight of the pilot is limited to 240 pounds.. Gross weight is 610 pounds. The floats are standard on this aircraft. Maximum airspeed 70 mph. Cruise speed 62.5 mph. Main rotor speed 540 RPM. Tail rotor speed 2500 RPM. Climb rate estimated is 900 ft./m. fuel capacity under the part 103 is 5 gallons with burn time of 6 gallons per hour and a 45 minute flight time. The total tank capacity is about 12 Gallons US. And an upgraded Odyssey battery

Since this Mossy was completed, there were two separate trips to Colorado from the Florida factory representative at my expense, for checkouts on progress of work accomplished items that were checked off for replacement or redo have been completed. This ship has not been flown. The price for this ship and all the extras is well under what one would pay for an assembled ship from the factory even without the included trailer, ramps, tie downs. and accessory set of wheels

My son and I were both interested in aircraft and particularly helicopters. We started the project a few years ago but he has since passed away and frankly I have lost interest in the project. This is the second time this bird has been listed. The helicopter quickly sold When it was first offered for sale, but the first purchaser backed out due to personal reasons.

There is a tandem trailer which comes with the price. (see photos)It is requested that the end user to whom this helicopter is sold complete at least a few hours of dual instruction in an R- 22 or helicopter of similar design and type. That being said, $2000 will be taken off the total sales price of $60,000.once that is agreed to.

Additional equipment that has been added to this helicopter package includes a handheld Nav/com, SP 200 from shorty's pilot shop. Its features include 2280,COMM frequencies 118.0 MHz to 136.9 MHz., 200 nav frequencies 108.0 MHz to 117.9 MHz has a full feature scanner which can scan 20 memory channels or the entire frequency range, low battery indicator and external power and antenna options. Along with that is a David Clark headset microphone combination. The Nav/com has two battery packs and one spare complete with carrying case. but comes with a DC DC adapter which may be plugged into the helicopter's 12 Volt system. See included photos. High-performance tuned exhaust system. A manual collective friction control and a computerized fuel system which eliminates fuel from having to be run inside the cockpit in a plastic tube which was the design specified by the kit designer. My personal belief regarding fuel within the cockpit is one that comes from experience as a firefighter for 30 years and witness to helicopter crashes that were survivable if not for the fuel spillage. I stay as far away from fuel sour
