    Learjet 55 Aircraft Series Information

The Learjet 55 is also known as 'Longhorn'. The 55 can hold ten passengers and two crew members. The empty weight of the aircraft is 12,130 lbs (5,502 kg) and the maximum takeoff weight is 19,500 lbs (8,845 kg). The cruising speed is 402 kts (462 mph, 744 km/h) and the maximum speed is 470 kts (541 mph, 871 km/h).

The 50 series was introduced at the Paris air show in 1977. There were three variations in the line, the Learjet 54, Learjet 55, and the Learjet 56. Of the three models only the 55 was manufactured. The 55 has NASA developed winglets giving it its Longhorn nickname. The monoplane has a low wing cantilever, a T-tail, and two Garrett TFE731 turbofan engines. The can is enclosed and the tricycle landing gear is retractable. The 55 original has had 126 manufactured.

The Learjet 55B is an improved version of the Learjet Model 55 with increased takeoff performance, a glass cockpit, and longer range. Eight of this model were built. Then came the Learjet 55C. The 55C features a redesigned underfuselage and delta fins to reduce landing speed and increase stability. The extended version of the 55C is the Learjet 55ER and the long range version with an extra tank is the Learjet 55LR model. The unbuilt models were a proposed 11 seat Learjet 54 and an 8 seat version the Learjet 56.
