The Maule M-7 series features single-engine, high- wing, strut-braced, light monoplanes. The series is based on the Maule M-4 series and is available with tricycle landing gear, tailwheel landing gear or twin pontoons for a seaplane. The cabin in the M-7 series is longer than the previous models with two seats in the front of the cabin with a bench seat for up to three additional passengers and an optional third row of kiddie seats. Additional cabin windows can be added to the rear of the fuselage if the third row is to be used. The Maule MX variations use the same fuselage that the Maule M-6 model uses but incorporates the wing of the Maule M-5 with the increased fuel tank and flaps that were designed for the M-7 versions. The M-7 line is available with either a piston or a turboprop engine.
Variations to the Maule M-7 model are: M-7-235 Super Rocket (initial model with tailwheel landing gear and a Lycoming O-540 engine), M-7-235B Super Rocket (M-7-235 with Oleo-strut landing gear), M-7-235C Orion (an M-235B with aluminum landing gear and a Lycoming IO-540 engine), M-7-260, M-7-260C, M-7-420AC Starcraft Turboprop (M-7-235 with an Allison 250 turboprop engine), MT-7-235 Tri-Gear (Super Rocket with tricycle landing gear), MT-7-260, MX-7 Rocket, MX-7-160 Sportplane (M-6 fuselage with M-5 wings and a Lycoming O-320 engine), MX-7-180 Star Rocket (MX-7 with lengthened cabin and a Lycoming O-360 engine), MX-7-180A Sportplane and Comet, MX-7-180B Star Rocket, MX-7-180C Millennium, MX-7-250 Starcraft (MX-7 with Allison 250 turboprop engine), MX-7-420 (M-7-235 with Allison 250 turboprop engine), MXT-7-160 Comet (MX-7-160 with tricycle landing gear), and the MXT-7-180A Star Rocket (MX-7-180 with tricycle landing gear).
