    Piper Vagabond Aircraft Information

Designed for personal use and flight training the Piper PA-15 Vagabond and PA-17 Vagabond are two seat, high wing, conventional landing gear light aircraft. The Vagabond has the capacity for two crew members with side by side seating. The empty weight is 620 lb (281 kg) and the gross weight is 1100 lb (498 kg). The cruise speed is 90 mph (146 km/h) and the maximum speed is 100 mph (163 km/h). The rate of climb is 510 ft/min (2.6 m/s).

Developed in 1948 the PA-15 was Piper's first post-World War II design. The Vagabond featured much of the same production tooling that created the Piper Cub and many of the Cub's structural components include tail surfaces, landing gear, and most of the wing parts. The Piper PA-15 Vagabond was powered by a 65 hp Lycoming O-145 engine. 387 aircraft were built.

The PA-17 featured dual controls, enabling it to be used for pilot training. It also featured a bungee cord shock absorbed undercarriage. The Piper PA-17 Vagabond is powered by a 65 hp Continental A-65 engine. Later Piper aircraft including the Piper Clipper, Piper Pacer, Piper Tri-Pacer, and Piper Colt were all variations of the Vagabond.
