Built from composite materials, the Cessna 400 Corvalis, is a single-engine, fixed landing gear, low-wing general aviation airplane. The Cessna 400 has the capacity for one pilot and three passengers. The empty weight is 2500 lb (1134 kg) and the maximum takeoff weight is 3600 lb (1500 kg). The rate of climb is 1500 ft/min (7.6 m/s) or greater.
Originally built by Columbia Aircraft as the Columbia 400. Variant models include the Columbia 400, Cessna 400 TT Corvalis, and Cessna TTX Corvalis. Production of the aircraft began in 2004. Powered by a turbocharged 310 hp Continental TSIO-550-C engine, the 400 features a Garmin G1000 glass cockpit. The Continental TSIO-550-C is capable of being operated lean of peak. The Cessna 400 features optional speed brakes mounted on the wing's top surfaces. Directional control while taxiing is accomplished using differential braking on the mainwheels, since the nosewheel is not directly steerable.
In January 2009, the Cessna 400 was given the marketing name Corvalis TT for twin turbocharged. Cessna introduced the new TTX variant with upgraded avionics and interior in 2011. The TTX features a new glass cockpit panel, designed by Cessna and based on the Garmin G2000. The aircraft features two 14 inch wide high definition screens that use an infra-red gird under the glass to accept touch commands known as the Intrinzic. The TTX also features a GFC 700 autopilot, a Garmin FTS800 traffic avoidance system, dual Attitude and Heading Reference Systems, Garmin TTX 33ES transponder with ADS-B and the Garmin Electronic Stability Protection System.
